World War II 1939-1945 Kyle, Nicole, and Tanner
World War II, a war that began due to many things, one of which was the Rome-Berlin Axis in October of 1936. This was established due to an invasion by Germany into Ethiopia. Another problem happening within the same countries is the Spanish Civil War with Francesco Franco. Germany showed the first signs of aggression, these being: moving troops into the rhineland which violated the Treaty of Versailles. At this point Hitler demands a union with Austria call Anschluss, the two countries are united on March 13, 1938. Then there is the Munich Conference, this meeting was supposed to solve the taking over of land by Hitler, that does not go as planned. England and France see Hitler's interest in invading Poland, and warn him that war will be declared if he does.
Although he is threatened Hitler invades Poland on September 1, 1939. Strategies like Blitzkreig, with the tanks called panzers are used and the air force, Luftwaffe comes to action. The Battle of Warsaw held out for 30 days. On September 3, 1939 England and France declare war on Germany but this is called the Phony War due to no fighting going on. Another milestone in the war is the Invasion of Norway this was the first time ever that troops had been airlifted and parachuted behind enemy lines. The Retreat at Dunkirk was also a very important event in this war, English and French troops get trapped and 340,000 men cross the English Channel in search of safe grounds.
Hitler still feeling on top of the world now decides its about that time, he now begins persecuting jews and sticking them in camps and ghettos. Hitler comes up with a counter-attack against England, this attack is called Operation Sealion. This attack involves many bombing raids to soften England. Shortly after this time the US cuts off supplies to Japan and cancels all treaties. On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor is attacked by Japan and on December 9th America has joined the war. A ways along in the war, a March into Rome on June 4, 1944 is lead in axis control. Germany resigns from the war following Hitlers suicide. Two A-bombs are dropped on Japan in the towns of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, all together ending the war for everyone.
